SOAR at Liberty Theater
By David Garza
Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 The SOAR program was invited to a private viewing of the Liberty Theater's production of “A Christmas Carol” in Dayton, WA. We arrived at 6:30pm and began congregating in the lobby. The staff were incredibly gracious, welcoming, and made sure to have their concessions available before the show. The theater band was practicing and tuning their instruments as we found our seats. Since it was a private viewing, you could imagine we had most of the seating area to ourselves which was really cozy. We were all eager to watch the show, especially since Heather Linn, a fellow SOAR participant, was performing as one of the townsfolk.
The show began around 7:00pm. The presentation was a combination of the beloved Charles Dickens novel “A Christmas Carol,” and the well-known O. Henry short story “The Gift of the Magi.” It told the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Faced with his possible eternal fate, Scrooge must learn to recognize the strength of charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence. The stage play and music written by Mike Ferrians and Brenda Henderson really helped get us in the holiday spirit. The actors all performed magnificently in their roles, and were excellent at improvising when necessary.
After the play, participants had the chance to meet the cast. Cast members were able to experience firsthand how meaningful their performance was and why inclusion matters. We left the theater filled with excitement for the upcoming holidays, looking forward to more SOAR events sure to keep our holiday spirits alive and well.
