RISE Speak Up! Self-Advocacy & Choice
RISE events are for children ages 8-12 with intellectual and developmental disabilities; no prior group experience necessary. Registration for each event closes the Sunday before the event at 6:00 pm.
RISE is a play- and experience-based, structured program where children explore confidence, friendships, and early independence in a safe and supportive environment. Sessions run 90 minutes. Participation is encouraged, not forced.
In Speak Up!, participants explore expressing their needs, making choices, and practicing confidence in a safe, supportive environment. Children rotate through choice-based stations where they ask for help, take breaks, or select activities, and engage in a movement-based “Simon Says” game led by peers. Snack time includes reflection on something each child asked for or accomplished today. This session fosters self-expression, independence, and confidence while keeping everyone safe and included.
