SOAR & WWVDN Kids Playgroup Shine at the Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days Art Exhibit

This July, SOAR participants and children from the Walla Walla Valley Disability Network’s Kids Playgroup came together to create beautiful works of art for the 2025 Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days. From air-dry clay sculptures, LEGO builds, acrylic and watercolor paintings, pencil sketches, and mixed media creations, to handmade jewelry and more, the creativity on display was nothing short of inspiring.

Over 30 art pieces were carefully framed, staged, and submitted to the fair. Every artist received a first-place ribbon, with special recognitions including:

  • 1 Special Award ribbon
  • 7 Best in Class maroon ribbons
  • 2 Reserve Best in Class ribbons

Each participant’s artwork was displayed with pride alongside an artist statement and photo, giving visitors the chance to see not just the art, but the heart and story behind it.

For many SOAR participants, attending the fair to see their artwork on display was a truly unforgettable moment. The joy was overwhelming. Faces lit up with wide smiles and cheeks glowing red with excitement as they spotted their art hanging in the exhibit, ribbons proudly attached. One participant, brimming with pride, exclaimed: “I’m famous now!”

It is moments like these that capture the true spirit of inclusion. Where every individual’s gifts are celebrated, valued, and uplifted. To witness our community come together and honor these artists was deeply moving.

This opportunity came to life thanks to Vicki Puller, Superintendent of Special Exhibits, who reached out to WWVDN with the invitation to participate. Vicki later shared how meaningful it was for community members to see an exhibit featuring the talents of individuals with disabilities, remarking on the joy it brought to other fairgoers.

What a success this collaboration has been, and what a beautiful tradition it will continue to be. Together, we are building a community where every artist belongs, every story matters, and every achievement shines brightly.
