SOAR Sets Sail for Adventure at the Viking Market!
By Tahasha Foxe
When SOAR participants arrived at the Dragons Gate Brewery Viking Market, they had no idea they were about to be catapulted into the past, a world filled with fierce warriors, skilled tradesmen, and daring seafarers. The moment we stepped through the gates, it felt like being transported straight into the world of How to Train Your Dragon, where history and imagination collided in the most incredible way.
Everywhere we looked, Vikings roamed! From merchants selling handcrafted wares and artisans demonstrating blacksmithing and weaving, to attendees dressed in full Viking garb, the atmosphere was electric. We listened to the echo of battle horns, felt the rhythm of Nordic drums, and watched as raw wool was transformed into felt before our eyes.
One of the highlights was setting our eyes upon a Viking ship, a real vessel that still sails today! We also explored the Viking museum, filled with fascinating artifacts that told stories of life, craftsmanship, and courage from centuries past.
After a hearty lunch from local food trucks, participants gathered to watch live battle demonstrations, cheering as warriors clashed shields and swords in thrilling displays of strength and teamwork. Some of our brave SOAR adventurers even joined the Shield Wall, learning authentic Viking battle tactics and testing their might alongside the Northwest Viking Alliance. Others took aim at the Seven Suns Archery range or picked up handmade jewelry and souvenirs to commemorate their day.
By the end of the adventure, everyone left with wide smiles, full hearts, and a new appreciation for the Viking spirit of courage, community, and curiosity. It was truly a legendary day, one we’ll be talking about until our next great voyage!
