Connect & Play: Visual Supports

Tuesday, January 13, 2026

Elopement Risk Level 1 - With Volunteers
Safety Reminder: SOAR events are designed to be fun, safe, and inclusive. Our volunteers will provide group support and supervision. While we do our best to minimize risks, participants who have a history of elopement (wandering or running) may require additional support from a family member or caregiver (a background check must be completed), especially at public events. Please let us know in advance if your participant may need extra attention so we can plan volunteer coverage accordingly.

Connect & Play is for Parents/Caregivers (Connect) and children with disabilities & their siblings under 12 years old (Play).

A hands-on, interactive session for the whole family!

For Parents: Learn about Visual Supports and create your own communication boards to support everyday routines.

For Kids: Engage in fun activities that tie directly to the visual supports parents are making.

1.) Match the Card to the Routine Game – match picture cards to common routines like snack time or tidy up

2.) Storytelling with Pictures – pick picture cards to tell a short story or act it out

3.) MyPlate Snack Creation – use a visual plate to build a balanced snack

This session is all about learning, playing, and connecting together while reinforcing skills in a fun, hands-on way.

(Registration deadline is the Sunday before the event)

Funding for Connect & Play provided by United Way of the Blue Mountains
