Elopement Risk Level 1 - With Volunteers
Safety Reminder: SOAR events are designed to be fun, safe, and inclusive. Our volunteers will provide group support and supervision. While we do our best to minimize risks, participants who have a history of elopement (wandering or running) may require additional support from a family member or caregiver (a background check must be completed), especially at public events. Please let us know in advance if your participant may need extra attention so we can plan volunteer coverage accordingly.

LIFT events are for children ages 5-8 with intellectual and developmental disabilities; no prior group experience necessary. Registration for each event closes the Sunday before the event at 6:00 pm.

LIFT is a play-based, structured program where children explore creativity, social skills, and movement in a safe and joyful environment. Sessions run 90 minutes. Participation is encouraged, not forced.

This session focuses on building friendships through turn-taking and cooperative play. Participants will practice waiting, sharing, and taking turns using visual supports, hands-on games, and group activities. Children will engage in sensory-friendly spin art where each friend adds a turn, play a collaborative pizza-making game that requires everyone’s participation, and take part in cooperative movement activities such as ball rolling and parachute play. A short Sesame Street video and guided reflection reinforce the idea that waiting and turn-taking help us be good friends, all while celebrating effort and positive social interactions.
