Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The Special Services department of ESD 123 is proud to partner with school systems and the medical community across southeast Washington to bring audiology services to children and young adults. Audiology services help to ensure access to auditory-based classroom instruction for all deaf and hard of hearing students, regardless of eligibility status.

This private Facebook group is for those who live in Walla Walla and the surrounding areas. It is a place for support amongst those who are deaf, hard of hearing as well as those who wear cochlear implants. This is also a place where those who care for others with hearing impairments of any kind can share information and ask questions as well as give emotional support. We will also be sharing information for any events which bring together those with hearing limitations as mentioned above to create a much needed community in our area.

Services and resources are provided to meet the needs of individuals of diverse backgrounds such as employment, housing, transportation, financial services, and communication accessibility. WADHH commits to provide full communication accessibility for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, Deaf disabled and late deafened individuals. WADHH provides interpreter services, Social Events, Support Groups, Education and Outreach Services, Case Management Services, Information, and Referral, Assisted Listening Devices Program, Telecommunication Program (TED), and ASL classes.

Hearing loss can affect a child’s ability to develop communication, language, and social skills. The earlier children with hearing loss start getting services, the more likely they are to reach their full potential.

It is important to find out if babies have hearing loss as soon as possible so that families and providers can give them the best possible support for developing language and communication skills.
