I am Fabian’s mother. Fabian, my son, is 31 years old now. He was born with infinite innocence, and according to his doctor he acts like a 10-year-old boy. At the beginning it was hard for us to admit that he was going to stay in the house forever since he can’t work or be independent. He is a very sweet boy and helps me with household chores. When he stopped going to school, he showed depression, and anxiety. I was very distressed because he doesn’t have any friends. But thanks to programs like SOAR and Community Inclusion he started a new stage in his life. He can go to places with other young people to have fun and engage in the community. I feel very blessed because I am paid through Medicaid to be his caregiver, which brings me great joy. I can stay home with my son to take care of him and I feel recognized for the work I do.

Recently my TV service went out. I called the company and they sent the technicians. Fabian explained the problem to them in English and discovered that he knows how to translate from Spanish to English and vice versa. I feel very proud of my son.
Soy la madre de Fabián. Fabián es mi hijo de 31 años ahora, nació con infinita inocencia, según su médico se comporta como un niño de 10 años. Al principio nos costó admitir que se iba a quedar en la casa para siempre ya que no puede trabajar ni ser independiente. Es un chico muy dulce y me ayuda con las tareas del hogar. Cuando dejó de ir a la escuela, mostró depresión y ansiedad. Yo estaba muy angustiada porque él no tenía amigos. Pero gracias a programas como SOAR e Inclusión Comunitaria comenzó una nueva etapa en su vida. Puede ir a lugares con otros jóvenes para divertirse y participar en la comunidad. Me siento muy bendecida ya que el Medicaid me ha contratado como su cuidadora y me da mucha alegría, porque ya no salgo a trabajar, me quedo con mi hijo a cuidarlo además me siento reconocida por lo que hago.

Recientemente mi servicio de televisión se apagó, llame a la compañía y mandaron a los técnicos, Fabian les explico a ellos el problema en Inglés y descubrí que sabe traducir del Español al Inglés y viceversa. Me siento muy orgullosa de mi hijo.
